Call for expression of interest: global and regional meetings

The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety (the Alliance) is organizing NGO meetings which bring together member NGOs, global road safety stakeholders, and corporate supporters.

These meetings are the primary NGO-led road safety and safe mobility gathering regionally and globally and incorporates capacity building, inspiration, and networking opportunities.

The Alliance NGO meetings are where we mobilize together as NGOs alongside the road safety community to trigger stronger action to reduce road deaths by 50% by 2030 and call
for action to guarantee every person has the right to guaranteed safe, affordable, accessible, sustainable mobility.

The Alliance is inviting expressions of interest from organizations interested in hosting the following events:

  1. Regional Meeting for NGOs in Africa, 2024;
  2. Regional Meeting for NGOs in Latin America, 2024;
  3. Global Meeting of Nongovernmental Organizations Advocating for Road Safety and Road Victims (Global Meeting), 2025.

Host organizations should ideally be non-governmental, or governmental in nature.

Expressions of interest should provide brief information (max 4 pages) on:

  1. The mission and structure of the lead organization, with links to governmental, NGOs and networks in which the organization is active;
  2. Relevant institutions and collaborators;
  3. Rationale, describing why the lead organization wants to host the conference ; and
  4. Existing financial resources and potential sponsors identified for the event on one page including any national government commitments.

After receipt of the responses to these calls (deadline: 28 August 2023), the Alliance will invite up to three candidates for each meeting to prepare a full bid document to be submitted before 1 October 2023.

Final selection and designation of the host institution and country will take place by December 2023. Although we hope the meetings will be held in-person, we understand that circumstances may dictate a hybrid meeting.

Background

The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety (the Alliance) is an umbrella organization that represents more than 320 NGOs active in road safety in over 100 countries. The Alliance was established in 2012 under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and is an independent organization registered in Switzerland under the Swiss Civil Code. We work closely with a wide range of stakeholders including WHO, World Bank, the UN Special
Envoy for Road Safety, FIA Foundation, corporates and many others. The Alliance has regional Chapters to mobilize NGOs in regions as a means of uniting road safety NGOs more closely, harnessing their joint experience, building their capacity and amplifying their advocacy voices with their governments.

Regional Meetings in Africa and Latin America to be held in second semester 2024

The Africa Chapter and Latin America Chapter equips, mobilizes, and connects NGOs to step up action in the regions. The Chapters help to raise NGOs’ collective voice about the problem of road safety and advocate for sustainable solutions while strengthening NGOs capacity to deliver evidence-based programs, road safety management, financing, and research. The Regional Meetings bring together regional member NGOs, regional road safety stakeholders, and corporate supporters. Regional meetings are organized by the Alliance and hosts
are expected to take a big part in facilitating financial support towards the costs of venue, catering, interpretation and streaming services, accommodation and airfares, reception dinner, as well as local logistical and support with obtaining visas and support to other travel and country entry requirements.

Global Meeting to be held in 2025

Every other year, the Alliance gathers member NGOs, global road safety stakeholders, and corporate supporters at its Global Meeting. In the past, Global Meetings have been organized and carried out by the Alliance and hosted by the road safety authority of the country in which it is being held. Previous Global Meetings have been held in Belgium, the United States, Turkey, Morocco, Malaysia, Greece, Hungary, and El Salvador. Global Meetings have had over 250 participants from at least 60 countries in attendance, and engaged the national road safety authority and the relevant Ministry, including dignitaries to open the conference. Global Meetings are organized by the Alliance and hosts are expected to take a big part in facilitating financial support towards the costs of venue, catering, interpretation and streaming services, accommodation and airfares, reception dinner, as well as local logistical and support with obtaining visas and support to other travel and country entry requirements.
