European Road Safety Charter

The Alliance is a member of the European Road Safety Charter, led by the European Commission, the largest civil society platform for road safety.

The Charter encourages civil society—including companies, associations, local authorities, research institutions, universities, and schools—to take action on road safety and share knowledge and experiences. More than 3,800 organizations have committed to the Charter and carried out road safety actions and initiatives targeted at their members, employees, and the rest of civil society.

The Charter aims to:

  • Encourage and support European associations, schools, universities, companies of all types and sizes, and local authorities to take actions for road safety in the EU
  • Acknowledge contributions by civil society to road safety
  • Facilitate civil society members in acquiring and sharing knowledge on road safety issues in the EU
  • Facilitate true dialogue for the transfer of road safety experiences and practices at all levels of governance in the EU

Any company, association, local authority, research institution, university or school from any EU member state is entitled to apply to join the Charter and commit to its principles:

  • To care about road safety
  • Act locally in a concrete way
  • Support road safety in your country
  • Share knowledge, collaborate, and exchange good practices

Members have the opportunity to share their work and best practices, which are featured on the Charter’s website. The website also has resources for civil society organizations, including a self-assessment tool.
