The Alliance represents the global network of NGOs focused on road safety, road victims, and safe mobility and we are the leading advocate for the role of NGOs. With a global trend in closing civic spaces (Civic space tracking data by CIVICUS) and NGOs facing growing threats of defunding (Civic Space Report 2025), it is all the more important to join forces to protect the conditions that enable NGOs not only to survive but to thrive. This is because their sustained advocacy helps transform current realities into better ones and brings us closer to halving road deaths and injuries by 2030.
Our publications and research show that NGOs are essential actors of accountability, catalyzing government actions grounded in evidence to protect the communities they represent. Yet, too often, NGOs are excluded, underfunded, or even silenced. From Latin America, our members have shared the risks they face and the gaps they fill when institutions fail. Their experiences remind us that every barrier to advocacy is not just an organizational challenge, but a threat to progress.
The Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety (Global Plan) sets out a clear role for NGOs, and as we reach its midpoint, the need to empower NGOs is more urgent than ever.
