At the recent UNRSC meeting 6-7 October in Geneva, the Alliance took an important step and officially became a member of the UNRSC. The acceptance followed a rigorous process of official application, presentation and vetting by UNRSC members.

Recognizing the active role that the Alliance has played in World Day of Remembrance, UN Road safety Week as well as being a platform for all NGOs around the world working on road safety, UNRSC Chairman Dr Etienne Krug said in his acceptance letter: “We believe that the Alliance will continue to play a key role and are looking forward to many fruitful years of collaboration to meet the goal of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020”.

The Collaboration is an informal consultative mechanism whose members are committed to road safety efforts and in particular to the implementation of the recommendations of the World report on road traffic injury prevention. The goal of the Collaboration is to facilitate international cooperation and to strengthen global and regional coordination among UN agencies and other international partners to implement UN General Assembly Resolutions and the recommendations of the World report thereby supporting country programmes.
