Global Meeting 2027: Expression of Interest

19 June 2025

The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety (the Alliance) invites Expressions of Interest from organizations interested in hosting the next Global Meeting of Nongovernmental Organizations Advocating for Road Safety and Road Victims (the Global Meeting). The Global Meeting will be held in 2027.

About the Global Meeting

The Global Meeting is the primary NGO-led conference for road safety, safe mobility, and road victims’ rights. It gathers NGOs alongside government agencies, global subject matter experts and academics, and private sector organizations to accelerate action toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3.6 (halve road deaths by 2030) and 11.2 (provide access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems for all). The Global Meeting is organized by the Alliance on behalf of its 400-plus members in 100 countries around the world and seeks to foster stronger multi-sectoral partnerships and strengthen NGO impact.

The next Global Meeting aims to bring together approximately 300 Alliance member NGOs, global road safety stakeholders, and corporate partners in person and offer streaming for virtual participation. The 2027 Global Meeting will serve as:

  • The first major NGO-led road safety conference in the Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026-2035, offering a unique opportunity to explore connections and joint agendas with the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030;
  • A collaborative platform to share lessons, solutions and inspiration, and build NGO capacity to advocate for road safety, sustainable mobility, and aligned SDGs;
  • An NGO-led call to action for government and all-sector accountability to guarantee every person’s right to safe mobility and halve global road traffic deaths by 2030.

Guided by the Alliance Strategic Plan 2024 – 2030, the Global Meeting advances key priorities across three strategic pillars: a strong network; advocacy and accountability; and capacity building.

Since 2011, the Alliance has organized Global Meetings in eight countries (Belgium, the United States, Turkey, Morocco, Malaysia, Greece, Hungary, and El Salvador). Meetings are organized by the Alliance in collaboration with a host, which is normally the national road safety agency and WHO. Over the past 15 years, we have convened more than 1,500 delegates from more than 60 countries. Past meetings have featured high-profile guest speakers and national government ministers, along with leaders from civil society, road safety, and public health fields. Learn more about the success of our past Global Meetings HERE.

Selection Criteria

The Alliance welcomes expressions of interest from organizations and government agencies with experience and capacity to facilitate international gatherings of similar reach and impact. Consortiums or collaborations between organizations are strongly encouraged, especially for those that may not meet all hosting requirements independently, but can combine resources to ensure success.

Hosting the next Global Meeting with the Alliance is an opportunity for a committed host to demonstrate leadership in road safety and sustainable mobility, and to gain international recognition for their contributions to a high-profile event.

As the main organizer, the Alliance will lead conference planning and program development, while the selected partner(s) are expected to provide the following essential support:

  • Secure the participation of high-level government representatives as dignitaries to open the Global Meeting;
  • Host a welcome reception dinner on the opening evening of the conference;
  • Provide visa support for international participants;
  • Provide in-country logistical assistance, including 1-2 dedicated support staff to assist with coordination before and during the event.

In addition, we welcome and encourage contributions toward the following:

  • A suitable venue and associated on-site services for a five-day conference (three days of training, followed by two days of plenary sessions);
  • Hotel accommodation for the invited NGO delegates for 4-5 nights (a minimum of 180 delegates, with flexibility to accommodate more if resources allow);
  • Catering services (including refreshment breaks and lunches), audiovisual equipment and support, and other logistical arrangements during the meeting.

Expression of Interest Components

Please submit a brief Expression of Interest (maximum 4 pages) that includes:

  • Organizational profile and networks: Overview of the organization’s mission and structure, including links to government entities, NGOs, and relevant networks in which the organization is active.
  • Consortium or collaboration details (if applicable): Outline the roles and contributions of each partner in the consortium or collaboration. This should include financial or in-kind contributions and any relevant experience supporting large-scale events.
  • Rationale for hosting: Explain why your organization is interested in hosting the Global Meeting and how this aligns with the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030, the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035, and/or relevant SDGs. You may include any thematic priorities or focus areas you would like to highlight during the event.
  • Financial resources and sponsorship: Describe existing financial and/or in-kind resources available for the event and any potential sponsors or donors already identified.

About the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety

The Alliance is an umbrella organization that represents more than 400 NGOs active in road safety, safe mobility, and road victims’ rights in over 100 countries. The Alliance was established in 2011 under the auspices of the WHO and is an independent organization registered in Switzerland under the Swiss Civil Code. We work closely with a wide range of stakeholders including WHO, World Bank, the UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, FIA Foundation, corporates, and many others. The Alliance has regional Chapters that mobilize NGOs in Africa and Latin America and unite them more closely, harnessing their joint experience, building their capacity, and amplifying their advocacy voices with their governments.

Together with our member NGOs, we work toward a world where every person has access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable mobility, using the road system, where no one dies or is seriously injured as a result of a road crash.
